Reviews Nope! Stick to his first album! What more is there to say, this is so **** Thanks, and on to some good music now........ 2009-01-03 John is a legend... Beautifully produced album, love it...I love Johns voice so I wasn't dissapointed but quite different to the last album I bought, Get Lifted, which I also rate highly. If you love soul/ hip hop - buy it! 2008-12-23 hhmmm...not quite there This album is not bad but there is something missing from it, it hasnt quite got that soulful feel that you usually get from JL. The trouble is that when you hear the first song, you think wow, great, but really, thats as exciting as the album gets. The track with Kanye is ok, the track with Brandy and the track with Estelle are both worthy efforts but overall this album sounds a bit dull. Its just not as exciting and you know thats true when you find yourself only repeating 3 out of 12 songs and skipping too many. Like most artist, he set the standard by which he is judged with his first album and this is not on par. I mean this takes away nothing from JL as he is still a soulful artist and you can sense that but not to a great depth. 2008-12-17 it's growing on me! It only arrived yesterday, and its growing on me! I agree with another review I read that a couple of the tracks are similar in style to the Once Again album - which I loved! The others are quite different in style, and Track 1 is a nice change! Its good - buy it! 2008-11-19 Strength to Strength This is a fantastic return to form for John Legend. His last two albums have been great but both were very similar. This however, shows a change in tack from John Legend. Tracks such as "Green Light" and "It's Over" will appeal to newer fans who favour Hip-Hop over R&B and those fans who want more up tempo songs. However, tracks such as "This Time" and "I Love, You Love" will appeal to the more traditional fans and those who like him for his tender and soft R&B songs. From start to finish it is an outstanding album! My only criticism would be the dominance of Kanye West's influence. Some tracks would have been better without the use of Synthesisers on John Legends voice and some of the cheap 80's electro sounds which Kanye was trying to put in most of the tracks. However, John Legends soulfulness manages to overcome this. Fantastic. 2008-11-19 |
