 Years Gone By Albert King
Born under a bad sign is generally regarded as the classic King record and I can see why, its a collection of great songs that have a wider appeal due to their short length and instant hooks. Plus it also has that amazing cover!. This album is different in that it has more of an album feel to it as opposed to a collection of singles. The songs are still short but they are puntuated by an instrumental... |
 Self Portrait Lalah Hathaway
Lalah hathaway does it again!!!!
If you have never experienced her voice, or her music now is the chance to redeem yourself. No self respecting music conosseur should be without this album in their collection. Whether you wanna sit and chill, or roll back the rug and two step until your feet hurt, this album has it all. I love it, love it, love it. Lalah Hathaway is class. Pure genius. |
Stax/Volt Revue: Live in Norway 1967 Sam & Dave
Saw the Hit The Road Stax Revue many many years ago in London. Myself and a mate saw the show 4 times @ different venues including a place called The Hot Potato - somewhere in the east end of London I think - actually managed to get a LP signed by most of the stars - still have it of course. Those were the days - all 1st class acts even at that early stage in their careers. Booker T was and remains... |
The Complete Stax/Volt Soul Singles Vol.2 1968-1971 Various Artists
This is the second instalment of the Stax story, although it is true to say that it represents the beginning of the story of Stax as an independant distributor of it's music.
To explain, pre'68, the labels output was licensed by Atlantic and when that deal ended, it was discovered that it gave Atlantic the rights to the Stax back catalogue - yes, all those classic tracks by the Soul greats,... |
Soulsville Sings Hitsville: Stax Sings Songs of Motown Records Various
The understandable reaction to this release would be one of enthusiasm. After all, who would not be intrigued by the prospect of more in the vein of Otis Redding's masterly interpretation of My Girl. Sadly the Stax that one imagines is not the one on offer here. This is Stax as distribution company with much of what is on offer here recorded away from Memphis with barely a Bar-Key or an MG in sight.... |
![Shaft: Original Soundtrack [VINYL]](http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41CPJV30W3L._SL75_.jpg) Shaft: Original Soundtrack [VINYL] Isaac Hayes
The "Theme from Shaft" is now so ingrained in popular consciousness as the blaxploitation-movie track that it's hard to listen to it without a faint smirk. ("Who's the black private dick that's a sex machine to all the chicks?") But if you can get past the inadvertent humour, it's still a devilishly exciting piece of music--all hi-hat 16ths, wah-wah guitar, strings and woodwind, like a Norman Whitfield... |
